Recycling facilities for students at the University of York will be considered by City of York Council's Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services and Advisory Panel (EMAP) at a meeting on Wednesday (26 July).
The council has received a petition signed by 60 students asking for its kerbside recycling services to be extended to include the university. A report on the issue acknowledges that it would be impossible to provide the same type of kerbside recycling service enjoyed by other residents of the city because of issues with vehicle access.
However, the report suggests that a bespoke service is created so that recyclable materials can be collected from the communal bin areas. This would mean that smaller wheeled bins would need to be introduced outside each accommodation block on the university campus and staff would need to move them to the collection points.
