City of York Council is promoting three exciting new courses for would-be
writers through its Read Write York scheme.
'Write then!' is ideal for anyone who has had a niggling desire to put pen to
paper but never got round to it. It's a six-week course starting on September
20 at Jacob's Well. The total cost is £36 and anyone interested in
snapping up one of the limited places should call 01904 331855.
An 'Online Creative Writing Workshop' run by the University of York is suitable
for both beginners and the more experienced. Students will work through a
series of structured online writing exercises from the comfort of their own
homes, receiving regular feedback from their tutor and peers along the way.
This course is due to start on 8 October and will be taught by Kate
North. For more information, call the Centre for Lifelong Learning on 01904
434620 or email: lifelonglearning@york.ac.uk
A week-long screenwriting course, run in association with York St John
University and led by James Richards, will take place on four occasions through
the summer months - 16 to 20 July; 23 to 27 July; 13 to 17 August and 20 to 24
August. Each course will run for five days from Monday to Friday and cover
story, characterisation, dialogue, structure and marketing. It costs £125
to take part and places are limited, so anyone keen to find out more should
call 01904 637671 or email j.richards1@yorksj.ac.uk as soon as possible.
