Reading group offer for York women

Posted on Tuesday 3 July 2007

City of York Council libraries and Read Write York are looking for female readers to take part in an exciting new promotion with the publisher, Vintage.

The promotion requires groups to read two books - one classic and one contemporary -  and feed their comments back for use by Vintage. Grimm’s Fairy Tales and Angela Carter’s short story collection ‘The Bloody Chamber’ are the titles chosen for York readers. Two very specific groups of women are being sought to take part in this promotion - mothers and non-mothers of any age.

The promotion does not involve reading to children; the books are adult titles. It simply aims to compare and contrast the reading experiences of these two groups of women through their responses to the chosen titles.

Those taking part will get the special limited edition book set to keep, but must commit to reading the two books between July and the end of August. They must then provide feedback to Vintage and attend a group session at York Central Library at the end of August to discuss the books.

Two groups of local women have already agreed to take part, but more volunteers are needed. Anyone interested in getting involved should contact Tricia Raxworthy, reader development librarian, on 01904 552814.
