Twist magazine launched

Posted on Tuesday 3 July 2007

City of York Council's road safety team is set to launch an innovative new magazine aimed at young scooter riders.

The magazine has been designed with its target audience in mind and has a fun cartoon-style look. It features scenarios commonly encountered by scooter riders, as well as information on scooter security and advice about what type of clothing to wear. The magazine also includes details of local motorcycle and moped test centres.

Twist has been launched as part of the council's bid to reduce the number of fatalities on York's roads. In 2006, half of the fatalities on roads in the city involved mopeds or motorcycles and a third of those who lost their lives were under the age of 30.

Tom Foxton, the council's road safety project officer, said: "The magazine is very much aimed at young, male scooter riders because statistics show that they are more likely to be involved in a fatal road traffic incident than almost any other group of road users.

"We wanted to communicate important road safety messages to this group in a format that is fun, accessible and eye-catching."
