Residents in the Foxwood area of the city will receive a very special waste collection next Saturday.
A large City of York Council waste wagon will tour the area, taking in old furniture, such as beds, sofas and old toys. The wagon will not collect white goods, such as fridges, or domestic rubbish. The scheme is part of the Foxwood Pride initiative, which aims to improve the local area at street level.
The council's Neighbourhood Services team will be working with local police officers to try to clear up the area, cleaning snickets and areas outside shops, and cracking down on issues such as graffiti and litter.
Previously, skips were placed at specific locations for householders to put their larger waste items in, but the system was being abused by a small number of residents, who completely filled the skips with their own household waste.
