Final judging for York's blooms

Posted on Friday 20 July 2007

York will get another opportunity to wow the Yorkshire in Bloom judges later this month, when the final judging takes place.

Judges will take a tour of the some of the most colourful parts of the city on Tuesday 24 July, before heading back to the historic Mansion House for afternoon tea. The break will also provide an opportunity for the judges to meet some of those who have been involved in the city's bid.

City of York Council is working with partners across the city to get York ready for the judging process. The city will be assessed against other communities of over 100,000 across the county and will be judged on the imaginative planting of trees, shrubs, flowers and landscaping as well as how it deals with issues of litter, graffiti and environmemtal issues. They will also look how community groups and schools have contributed to the local environment.

Russell Stone, Street Scene manager, said: "The final judging is the culmination of months of hard work, not only by the council, but by partners across the city. We're very grateful for all the help and support that we have received, particulalry from residents and local community groups. We'er keeping our fingers crossed that we will get some sun on the day."
