City of York Council is working with technology supplier Verrus, to ensure that York motorists can access the parking discounts available for residents when they pay to park by text.

The new Pay by Text service was launched in June, following the introduction of the Pay by Phone Service in 2005.

However, the council's transport chiefs have become aware that the textng service does not yet allow resident badge holders to get a parking discount.

Russell Broadbent, from the council's Parking Services team, said: "We apologise for this technical problem but we are working with Verrus to amend the system as quickly as possible to enable resident badge holders to obtain their parking discounts if they pay to park by text. They can, of course, still use the pay by phone facility to get their discount in the usual way."
