It is with regret that City of York Council can confirm the death of Councillor Bill Bennett who died suddenly on Saturday 14 July.
The Conservative councillor represented the Heworth Without Ward on the council, having been re-elected in May.
David Atkinson, chief executive of City of York Council, said: "We were deeply saddened to learn of Councillor Bennett's death over the weekend and on behalf of the whole council I would like to offer my condolences to his family and friends.
"Bill was known as a dedicated political campaigner who was well respected by his colleagues of all political parties and was well liked by those who knew him. He will be sadly missed."
