Customers at one of City of York Council's community resource centres will be hoping for fine weather next week as they host their first ever garden party (Wednesday 11 July).
Pine Trees, a specially-adapted community resource for people with learning disabilities, will be holding a party in its grounds to celebrate the completion of its 'sensory garden'. The garden was created with the help of customers and provides a relaxing outdoor space for them to enjoy.
The sensory garden is the final part of an extensive refurbishment and extension of the site, which was opened in December 2005 as part of a new range of options made available to people with learning disabilities following the closure of the Hebden Rise centre in Acomb.
Pine Trees provides a base from which customers can access community facilities, although a range of activities are provided within the building itself. Located in James Backhouse Place in Holgate on the site of the former St Dymphna's Nursery building, the activity centre is open daily from Monday to Friday and offers places for 15 customers per day.
Cream teas will be served, with a pianist providing a relaxing backdrop for visitors.
