Pupils from schools across the city will be showing off their talents as part of the York Schools' Music Festival.
The popular event is organised by City of York Council's Arts Education team and will be held at the Grand Opera House at 2.00pm on Sunday 8 July.
All the schools taking part in the festival will perform a diverse range of vocal and instrumental music including a soul band, a steel pan group and two giant orchestras. Lord Deramore's, Dringhouses, Badger Hill and Tang Hall primary schools have combined to bring a 45 strong orchestra to the festival. While Acomb, Carr Junior, Rufforth, Westfield and Poppleton Road primary Schools have got together to provide the other huge ensemble. A choir of 70 singers from Knavesmire and Dringhouses primary schools will also be taking to the stage.
Tim Brooks, City of York Council’s music consultant said: "These groups demonstrate a growing interest in schools to work together in arts activities. This is a great development and I’m very pleased to see the results of this collaboration at the music festival.’
"The Schools' Music Festival is a fantastic opportunity for schools to showcase their musical strengths and for young people to have the experience of playing on a large stage to an audience of nearly 1,000 people. We want to show the range, diversity and quality of music going on in York schools. There is a very positive and encouraging atmosphere amongst the performers and it’s an event that many pupils will remember for a very long time."
Tickets for the performance cost £3.50 or £2.00 for concessions and are available from the Grand Opera House.
