Council kicks off school holiday activity programme

Posted on Thursday 5 July 2007

The biggest ever school holiday activity programme has been launched by City of York Council this week.

More than 150 different activities for children aged between five and 18-years-old are included in a packed programme of summer holiday schemes, all approved by City of York Council.

The exciting activities for this summer are included in a new 40-page magazine, published by the council and available through schools in York as well as libraries, community centers and City of York Council receptions. The magazine lists information on each scheme and tells you how to apply. You can also view the programme on the council's web site.

The regular summer programme has been steadily growing and this year the council has loads of brand new activities for people to try.

This year sees karate, non-contact boxing, fencing and archery also being offered. Total Sports Ltd present their brand new Total Sports and Total Soccer acvtivities at Manor CE School which will be running right through the holidays!

For budding actors and actresses, there are new drama courses at Miller Yard on Gillygate and even young rocket scientists are being catered for with rocket building activities in some of York's parks. For the more artistic we also have photography and an exiting new scheme to design a brass rubbing trail all around the city walls.

Tim Waudby, community leisure officer at City of York Council, said: "We have a very exciting summer programme ahead with some fantastic brand new activities, along with a return of many favourite activities. We look forward to lots of people taking part in what promises to be a fun-packed summer."
