29 January 2007: Tower Street dual carriageway resurfacing

Posted on Monday 29 January 2007
City of York Council will resurface Tower Street, starting on Monday 5 February, for four weeks.

To minimize disruption the work will be carried out in three phases working overnight between 7pm and 6am and taking one week per phase:

- Phase 1 from Monday 5 to Friday 9 February - resurfacing the Fulford-bound carriageway between the War Memorial and Paragon Street, including the closure of the junction with Piccadilly - No work will take place during the schools' half term holiday, from Monday 12 to Friday 16 February - Phase two from Monday 19 to Friday 23 February is resurfacing the city-bound carriageway between Fishergate and Skeldergate Bridge, including the closure of St George's Field Car Park - Phase three from Monday 26 February to Friday 2 March is resurfacing a short length of carriageway from Skeldergate Bridge to the War Memorial.

The existing worn out road surface will be removed and deep repairs in some areas will be necessary before laying the new road surface.

For safety reasons the road will be closed to all vehicular traffic overnight between 7pm and 6am Monday to Friday during each phase.

During the closure period signed diversion routes will operate for both local and through traffic. Bus services will also be diverted and information will be displayed at bus stops to keep travellers informed.
