24 January 2007: Central Library joins in celebrations for Residents' 1st Weekend

Posted on Wednesday 24 January 2007
York's Central Library will join in the celebrations for Residents' 1st this weekend by opening on Sunday (28 January).

City of York Council's largest library will open between 11am and 4pm to enable residents to get an up-to-date Yorkcard. The card entitles residents to free or discounted entry to a selection of leisure facilities in York, including museums and swimming pools, all year round.

To get a Yorkcard, residents need to take two items of identification, one of which must show a current (York) address, to any City of York Council library*.

The card will also enable them to get free access to a host of attractions across the city as part of the Residents' 1st weekend (27-28 January).

York's Residents' 1st Weekend 2007 will be the biggest and best ever, with over 50 of the city's museums, tours and attractions opening their doors free of charge.

Supported by First (York) and Smilesallround Estate Agents, the weekend offers the opportunity to visit a host of familiar favourites together with some new attractions for 2007. New additions to this year's programme include the opportunity to visit the city's cold war bunker, the chance to tour York's historic archives, and an offer to take part in a 'live' archaeological dig in St Saviourgate.

Full details about the events for Residents' 1st Weekend 2007are available from the Information Point in Parliament Street on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 26-28 January, in council receptions, libraries and leisure centres and at www.whatsonyork.com
