12 January 2007: £170,000 of YorKash

Posted on Friday 12 January 2007
York teenagers will hand out £170,000 to other young people's groups across the city this week.

Members of City of York Council's YorKash panel, who are aged between 13 and 17 years of age, have assessed funding bids from 75 young people's groups in York, totalling £493,580, and will allocated grants of up to £10,000 to the successful bidders at an award ceremony on Friday (12 January).

The YorKash scheme is funded through the council's Lifelong Learning, and Culture team (£25,000) and government funds - the Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) (£90,000) and the Youth Capital Fund (YCF) (£55,000) and has been run by the Youth Service and the Early years and extended schools service.

Twenty two young people from the YorKash panel have been involved since last April to develop a grant making process for other young people's groups. They also created the application forms and publicity for the scheme.

A total of 64 groups have been successful in gaining funding for their projects. Representatives from the groups have been invited to attend the awards ceremony at Next Generation Gym on Hull Road on Friday.
