The council has produced a 136 page booklet, produced in partnership with Your Local Link, listing all the authority's services alphabetically. The guide will go out to 90,000 households across the city and also includes information about hospitals, police, citizens' advice bureau and many other non-council services, organisations and advertisers.
David Atkinson, chief executive of City of York Council, said: "Residents have told us that they would find an A-Z guide to council services really useful and by working with our partner, Your Local Link, we've found a cost effective way of producing a user friendly guide.
"People will be able to let us know how useful the guide is by commenting through the council's website at www.york.gov.uk"
The last A-Z produced by the council was distributed in 1999.
