Showcasing musical talent

Posted on Monday 12 February 2007

Talented young musicians across York will be showcasing their talents at two special recitals this month.

The concerts have been organised by City of York Council's Arts and Culture team and York St John's University to highlight the skills of talented young musicians from York schools.

Last year's recital proved so successful that, to meet demand , two recitals have been arranged for this year involving A-level students from All Saints and Joseph Rowntree schools.

Both recitals will be held at York St John's University Chapel on Saturday 24 February -  a lunchtime recital (1pm - 2pm) and an evening concert (7pm - 9pm).
The programmes include a diverse and ambitious range of music.

Tim Brooks, the council's music consultant for arts and culture, said: "We already hold a highly successful annual music festival giving the opportunity for larger scale performances from choirs and instrumental ensembles.  Now we have added the further opportunity for celebrating some of York's most talented young musicians in a recital of solo performers and chamber ensembles."

Tickets cost £3.00 for each concert and are available in advance from the council's Arts and Culture team on 01904 554660, or on the door. Tickets are free to all teachers and students - advance booking only on 01904 554660.
