Demand for tours of the city archives was so great during the recent Residents First event that City of York Council has earmarked some additional tour dates for anyone who missed out.
The first of these will take place on Thursday 8 February, starting at 6pm, and is open to a maximum of 12 people to ensure that everyone taking part can get a good look at the records and browse at their leisure.
The city's records go back 800 years to a time when York was England's second city. Its status is reflected in the archives, which include entries about Richard III and the Mystery Plays. Other records on display include family history resources, an 18th century pawnbrokers book and 19th century police records, as well as early maps and plans.
Further events will be held on subsequent Thursdays if demand remains high, but anyone hoping to join in must book their place in advance by calling (01904) 551878. The tours are free and last for around one hour.
