The final stages of a new ring road roundabout in York will see it nearing completion over the next few weeks.

The new roundabout on the A1237 outer ring road at Moor Lane reaches another key stage in construction when two of the three side roads open and the roundabout starts being used.

Motorists on the A1237 between the A64 Copmanthorpe roundabout and the B1224 Wetherby Road roundabout, are now making use of the eastern and western parts of the new roundabout.  This has enabled the contractor (Morrison Construction) to carry out works to complete the centre of the roundabout, prior to its opening.

On Monday 17 December, Askham Lane is due to be connected to the roundabout, giving improved access to and from the Westfield area.  Askham Bryan Lane is due to be connected into the new roundabout on Wednesday 19 December.

Motorists using the A1237 are asked to be aware that the Moor Lane roundabout will come into operation on 17 December and they will need to give way to other motorists already on the roundabout.

The existing Askham Lane junction with the A1237 will close on Friday 14 December to enable works to connect Askham Lane into the roundabout to be completed.

The existing Askham Bryan Lane junction with the A1237 will close on Monday 17 December to enable works to connect Askham Bryan Lane into the roundabout to be completed.

Signed diversion routes will be in place during the times that these two side roads are closed.  Motorists are advised to follow these routes and allow extra times for their journeys.  Restricted access will be maintained for cyclists and pedestrians.

The existing Moor Lane junction with the A1237 will close on Thursday 3 January 2008 to enable improvements to Moor Lane to be carried out and the road connected into the roundabout.  This closure is expected to last for about four weeks and, when Moor Lane re-opens, it will be directly connected to the new roundabout giving improved access to and from the Woodthorpe area.
