Provisional Key Stage 2 results

Posted on Tuesday 7 August 2007

City of York Council today welcomed figures showing that York's schools are continuing to make excellent progress in Key Stage 2 tests.

York's results are an improvement on last year's, but are also well ahead of national averages. Figures for York put the city in the top 20 per cent of all local authorities nationally in all subjects.

The results for 11 year olds were published by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) today and show that:
· At Key Stage 2 Level 4+ (the expected level of achievement for 11 year olds) results in all subjects were well above the national average, with York pupils achieving their best ever results in English, Maths and Science. In English, 83 per cent of pupils achieved Level 4 or above (3 per cent above the national average), in Maths the figure is 81 per cent (4 per cent above the national average) and in Science the result is 90 per cent (2 per cent above the national average).
· Results at Level 5+ (the higher level) were all well above the national average by 4 per cent, 4 per cent and 2 per cent in English, Maths and Science respectively.

Pete Dwyer, director of Learning, Culture and Children’s Services for the council, said: “I am really pleased with these results, which show that York schools continue to perform well above the national average.  These are our best ever results and are a real tribute to the hard work and dedication of teachers, pupils, staff and parents. They also reflect the collective efforts of a range of other partners seeking to ensure that children in York have the best possible start in life."
