City of York Council has received an encouraging response to its 'Feeling and being safe in York' campaign, with 978 residents attending the recent round of ward committee meetings to find out more.
As part of the three-month long community safety campaign, the council's neighbourhood management unit arranged for free personal alarms and property marking packs to be available and for North Yorkshire Police to security tag bicycles at all ward committees.
A total of 978 residents attended the meetings, with 246 opting to have the bicycles tagged, 346 claiming their free personal alarm and 368 benefiting from the property marking service. Meanwhile, 465 residents took the opportunity to claim free energy efficient lightbulbs.
Zoe Burns, head of the council's neighbourhood management unit, said: "We were delighted with the feedback that we received from residents. The campaign has proved extremely successful in raising awareness of community safety issues and ensuring that people and their property are better protected."
