City of York Council will start work to create a new roundabout on the A1237, between Moor Lane and Askham Lane junctions, on 30 April.
The roundabout will connect Moor Lane, Askham Lane and Askham Bryan Lane. Direct routes for cyclists and pedestrians heading to or from Askham Bryan will be retained away from the roundabout via the two existing crossing points.
The £3.5m scheme has been designed so that a large proportion of the works are away from the existing roads and hence can be carried out with minimal disruption to existing traffic flows. Where lane closures are required these will be confined to off-peak periods. Appropriate routes for cyclists and pedestrians will be maintained at all times.
Morrison Construction will be the contractors carrying out the work. The works are programmed to be substantially completed early in the new year.
