Children and young people's plan launch

Posted on Monday 16 April 2007

Around 60 young people will attend the official launch of York's second Children and Young People's Plan on Wednesday.

The plan has been produced by YorOK, York's Children's Trust, which is a partnership of all the groups and organisations in the city working closely with children and young people. Its purpose is to provide a clear sense of direction for everyone working to improve outcomes for York's children and young people, but also to help young people understand what they can reasonably expect the city to do for them and how they might make a contribution themselves.

The shared vision of those involved in providing services for children and young people is that their work should contribute towards high levels of personal achievement for all children and young people, both as individuals and as citizens.

The plan, which is for 2007-2010, has been developed during the last year following widespread consultation with children, young people, families and YorOK's partner organisations. As part of this process, more than 6,300 parents completed a questionnaire.

The official launch of the plan will take place on Wednesday (18 April) at Fountains Learning Centre at York St John University on Lord Mayor's Walk, York between 4pm and 5.30pm.

It will feature a showing of a Young Voices DVD commissioned by YorOk to ensure that the views of children and young people are taken on board when services are shaped and developed. The DVD was an invauable tool in the development the plan.

There will also be entertainment from breakdancers and drummers.
