City of York Council's community arts team - Arts Action York - is offering grants of between £100 - £1,500 for community art projects in the city.
A total fund of £10,000 is available over the year and the grants are open to not-for-profit groups that have their own bank account.
There are two rounds of applications, with deadlines for submissions on May 1 and September 10.
The aims of the grants are to:
- help people enjoy good physical and mental health through art
- use arts to develop pride and pleasure in the environment
- celebrate diverse cultures and communities in the city
- developing creative expression for everybody, promoting lifelong learning
through the arts
- encouraging local people to enjoy and participate in cultural
activities
- promoting economic wellbeing, increasing work opportunities for artists
Emily Harvey, Arts and Festival Manager, from the council's Arts and
Culture Service, said: "The aim of the funding is to enable local groups to
work with artists to organise creative proejcts which benefit their
community. Prevous projects we have supported include; murals for a school
playground, older people writing and performing songs, teenagers producing
their own magazine and a drama project with disabled adults. If you have a
