Skeldergate will be closed from tomorrow (Tuesday, 15 July) to allow engineers to carry out emergency work on the sewage system.

Peter Evely, head of network management, City of York Council, said: "There is a significant problem with the sewage system in Skeldergate and we will have to close the road so we can start work immediately. It's likely to be closed for about a week, though we'll have a more definite idea once we take a closer look."

Diversions will be signposted.
