It's music to their ears for young string and woodwind musicians who will be making music in celebration of their hard work during the school year. City of York Council's arts service has organised two days of music making giving pupils the chance to demonstrate their talents.

A Strings Fun Day will be held at Westfield Community School on Friday, 4 July giving pupils the opportunity to play their instruments in a larger group and meet new people. Two Windtech Days will also be held at Milthorpe School on Wednesday, 9 July and Burnholme School on Friday, 11 July. 140 pupils will be taking part in the fun days, all of whom take music lessons in their schools with the council's art service.

Shan Thomas, strings teacher and the leader of the Strings Fun Day said: "The highlight of these days is an informal concert in front of the young musicians' family and friends. Many of the youngsters enjoy playing in a group so much that they go on to join the Performing Arts Centre."
