Westfield Gets New Family Learning Centre

Posted on Tuesday 1 July 2003
A spot of monkey business helped launch the opening of a new family learning centre at Westfield Primary School on Friday (June 27).

Music and puppets from Melody Monkey's Marvellous Music Box were on hand to lead celebrations when the centre was opened by Patrick Scott, City of York Council's director of education.

Opened as a result of a partnership between City of York Council's Family learning Service, Westfield School and the Learning & Skills Council, the centre offers a wide range of courses designed to promote learning within families.

Lorna Batten, family learning co-ordinator said: "This is a wonderful new resource that will be a real asset to the service and parents in the area. We are really excited to have this opportunity to work closely with Westfield School." The centre is accessible to people with disabilities and all classes are supported by free childcare.
