31:01:03: Is your home wrapped up from the cold?

Posted on Friday 31 January 2003

With the county caught in a cold snap, the Energy Partnership for North Yorkshire is advising residents to check that they're not the only ones who are wrapped up warm this winter.

The partnership, which is backed by City of York Council, advises topping roof insulation up to 250mm deep to prevent energy escaping through the roof and into the atmosphere.

Josephine Leffler, Energy Partnership of North Yorkshire, said: "People can tell if they need to top up their insulation by looking to see if their roof has cleared of snow or frost before their neighbours - if it has, they may need to top up their loft insulation. More effective insulation can save householders up to £100 a year on their energy bills - as well as making their homes warmer and more comfortable. "Our job is to make becoming energy efficient easier and cheaper through our discounted prices. We not only have a team of experts to offer advice, but we also organise installers and aftercare. Our installation and aftercare service is particularly helpful to avoid 'cowboy installers'."

Clifton residents may also qualify for a grant to provide a further third off the Energy Partnership discounted prices on both loft and cavity wall insulation. Local homeowners should call the Energy Partnership on 0800 512012 to see if they qualify for the grant. Funding will be provided on a first come first serve basis, depending on post code.

Since its inception in 1999, the Energy Partnership has helped thousands of customers to access cheap and reliable home insulation, heating products and services. The partnership is based at the local Energy Efficiency Advice Centre, 20 George Hudson Street, York. Free advice on loft/cavity wall insulation or heating is available by telephoning 0800 512012.
