The work involves replacing worn out carriageway on Clifton between Clifton Green and Clifton Place and the installation of new traffic signals at the junction of Shipton Road and Rawcliffe Lane.
The programme includes:
resurfacing Clifton Green and Clifton, starting today and ending on Friday (February 28) and involving the use of temporary traffic signals and a full closure of Water Lane today and tomorrow
short term, off-peak lane closures next week at the Shipton Road/Rawcliffe Lane junction whilst new power cables are installed
a break in the works next week to allow emergency Yorkshire Water repairs to a collapsed sewer at Bootham/Burton Stone Lane
a further series of short-term road lane closures during the week beginning March 17 to allow the altering of kerb lines and installation of new traffic islands ahead of the installation of the new traffic signals at the junction of Rawcliffe Lane and Shipton Road. These works will be completed by the end of April, and the new signals installed in May.
The council is ensuring that temporary lights will only be in operation between 9.30am and 4pm. Residents have been informed of the work and a diversion of traffic using Water Lane has been put in place.
Peter Evely, the council's head of highway regulation, said, "This is part of our rolling programme of highways improvements and we are working to keep disruption to a minimum. Ultimately, motorists using the A19 in this area will benefit from these improvements."
