Simon, who works in the council's early years department, has decided to plan a car journey with a difference, together with his brother-in-law, Tim Wright.
The intrepid pair are planning to attempt to drive from Land's End to John O'Groats in a 1973 VW Beetle. They are stopping only to climb Scarfell Pike and Ben Nevis - the highest peaks in England and Scotland, respectively.
The pair will travel 874 miles from start to finish plus travelling to and from the start and finish points, all in the weekend of 27-30 June.
Simon Haddock, said: "I've lost count of the number of people who've said that we're both mad, but we're doing it in aid of a really good cause - to raise money for Diabetes UK, a charity which looks after the interests of the 1.4 million people who are living with the disease in the UK.
"We're looking to get as much support for our trip as possible and are hoping for plenty of media coverage. We'd be delighted to hear from anyone who might be interested in helping with the costs of the trip - whether it be helping with petrol, food supplies, or simply in-car entertainment!
"It's a great cause and we would like to raise as much money for the charity as possible - especially after all our hard work!"
Heather Marsland, early years manager, said: "The early years and childcare service is right behind Simon in this venture and fully support him for such a good cause. We will be cheering him on from the comfort of York as we think he's mad to do so much in one weekend!"
