07.02.03: Pedestrian Improvements at Malton Road/Hopgrove Lane

Posted on Friday 7 February 2003
City of York Council will start reconstructing the pedestrian crossing and refuge island on Malton Road at the junction of Hopgrove Lane on Monday (February 10).

The work is to replace the existing pedestrian island with a wider and safer one. The work will last for three days and will be carried out by the council's Commercial Services Organisation.

To enable the work to be carried out in a safe manner traffic signals will be in operation on Malton Road adjacent to the Hopgrove Lane South junction between 9.15am and 4pm.

Ray Chaplin, head of the council's engineering consultancy, said: "This new facility will replace the smaller crossing with a wider one making it safer for push-chairs, wheelchairs and the partially-sighted to cross this busy road.

"This project will be followed in a few weeks with the introduction of a 40mph speed limit and improved road marking to the junction of Hopgrove Lane South and the A1036."
