The leaflet will inform residents in areas of Tang Hall about Robin Allan, who has been served with an ASBO because of his unacceptable behaviour, which included assaulting a young woman and threatening restaurant staff. The order prevents Allan from associating with named individuals in a public place, or carrying out a number of specific actions.
Chief Inspector Howard Harding, North Yorkshire Police, said: " This is a community order granted by the court in response to community need. It is entirely appropriate that the community are aware of the detail of the order so that they are able to respond in the event that the individual breaches its terms. We are hopeful that this process will not only empower and strengthen the community in the longer term, but also encourage positive change on the part of the offender "
Steve Waddington, assistant director, City of York Council, said: "We hope that the leaflet will help reassure residents across the city that we are taking action to tackle anti-social behaviour on their behalf. By informing the local community about the terms of the ASBO, they can help us enforce any breaches of the order and make sure that they are able to protect their communities from anti-social behaviour."
Jane Mowat, director of Safer York Partnership, said: "Jane Mowat, director of Safer York Partnership, said: "Disorder and nuisance is not just a police responsibility, it is crucial that communities work with us to create safer neighbourhoods. I see this initiative as being a very valuable tool which furnishes individuals with the information they need to influence and improve quality of life in their own area ".
Anyone who sees Robin Allan breaking the terms of his ASBO should contact the police on 01904 631321, Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or City of York Council on 01904 613161. Breach of an anti-social behaviour order is a criminal offence and will be investigated by the police.
