28.08.03: New Footbridge for City Centre

Posted on Wednesday 27 August 2003
Plans to build a £3million footbridge across the River Ouse, go before councillors next month.

On Wednesday, 3 September, the council's executive member for planning and transport and the advisory panel will discuss proposals for a pedestrian footbridge linking North Street Gardens and the Guildhall.

Options on the table include a £3.3million cable-stayed steel cantilever bridge, or a £3.7million stainless steel arch bridge. And councillors will consider whether to put the scheme out to tender or to run a design competition similar to the one held for the Millennium Bridge.
