A report before the executive member for planning and transport advisory panel sets out progress to-date and requests permission to explore the possibility of phased development of the North East York Rail Scheme.
In the short term the council wants to fast track work on a new station at Haxby that could see direct trains between Haxby, Scarborough, York, Leeds, Huddersfield, Manchester, Manchester Airport and Liverpool. Talks with Network Rail will continue on the feasibility of providing stations at Strensall, Copmanthorpe, York Hospital and York Business Park (adjacent to the A1237). The proposals have been drawn up in line with aspirations contained in the Local Transport Plan (2001/2 - 2005/6), and are part of a long-term strategy for development of the rail network.
