07.03.02: Rehearsals underway for rock opera Tommy

Posted on Thursday 7 March 2002
Band rehearsals for a new production of the Rock Opera Tommy will get underway next week - with auditions for many of the show's key parts still open to applications, although only until Monday (March 11). Tommy - made famous by Who front man Roger Daltry - is being staged in the summer and City of York Council's performing art service is still looking for budding young stars and backstage crew. Talented singers, dancers, musicians and technicians aged between 11 and 18 are all being sought for the production which has its grand performance scheduled for Friday, July 26 at the National Early Music Centre. Participants for the project will be selected by auditions which will be held later this month but the closing date for applications is next Monday (March 11).

David Ashworth, music consultant for the performing arts service, said, "This will be an amazing journey for the young artists taking part and a unique opportunity for them to work at a professional level. We are hoping that many more city youngsters will think about getting involved over the weekend and then get in touch." Anyone seeking further information on the project and an audition application form should contact David at the performing arts service on 01904 554663. END
