08.07.02: Woodwind and Brass Music Making Days

Posted on Sunday 7 July 2002
Seventy talented young woodwind and brass musicians will be working with the staff of City of York Council's Arts Service this week to prepare for afternoon concerts.

The pupils from 24 of York's primary schools have been having music tuition with the Arts Service and the WindTech Days - at Millthorpe School on Wednesday (July 10) and at Burnholme School on Friday (July 12) - will provide an opportunity for the musicians to play their instruments together, to make new friends and, most of all, to have fun making music.

Derek Warley, brass teacher with the Arts Service and organiser of the WindTech Days, said, "Besides developing musical skills, playing an instrument with other young musicians helps instil commitment, concentration and team work.

"The highlight of each day will be the performances when the pupils will have their chance to display their skills to their parents and families."
