York will celebrate the arrival of the Queen's Jubilee Baton tomorrow (Friday, July 5) with an exciting evening of music and street theatre organised by City of York Council's Arts Service.

The Street Theatre Project will start the evening of entertainment with shows at Parliament Street and Coppergate from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.

The performers are talented students from York's secondary schools who have been working with the internationally-renowned Mark Mark Productions, specialists in outdoor performance.

Meanwhile, at the Eye of York, the show starts at 5.30pm with music from the best of York's youth rock bands Conflux and TBA. The festivities will also feature the carousing samba and salsa music of the York Street Community Band.

Gill Cooper, head of the council's Arts Service, said, "There will be an extravaganza of music and theatre to celebrate to Jubilee Baton coming to York. Everyone is invited to an evening of exciting entertainment that demonstrates the wealth of talent in the city."
