From Monday (January 7), as a temporary measure, the library will no longer open during the evenings - although the library will be open for longer during the day to compensate.

The library is usually open three evenings a week but it will now be closed at 5.30pm at the latest on opening days

The revised arrangements and opening times are: Monday: 2pm to 5.30pm Tuesday: closed Wednesday and Friday: 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5.30pm Thursday: 10am to 1pm Saturday: 9.30am to 12.30pm

Annie Mauger, head of the council's library service, said, "We are introducing these measures temporarily while we work with the community to come up with a solution to recent difficulties with vandalism and security.

"These issues are causing concern and problems for users of the library as well as staff and while this is disappointing we will be reviewing the situation in March."
