The work will involve excavating failed areas of carriageway and then providing a new surface layer to give a good ride quality for motorists and cyclists. The work will take about four weeks to complete with half of the work taking place at weekends.
Tarmac Northern Ltd will be carrying out the works. Whilst resurfacing works are being carried out temporary road closures will be in operation on Sunday, March 10 and Sunday March 17, 2002 with traffic diverted via Barbican Road, Paragon Street, Fawcett Street, Fishergate, Tower Street and Piccadilly.
Outbound traffic will also be diverted between Monday, March 18 and Friday, March 22. A diversionary route will be signposted via.St. Denys` Road, Piccadilly,Tower Street, Paragon Street and Barbican Road.
Head of the council's engineering consultancy, Ray Chaplin, said "The road closures will only be in place during off peak hours (09.15am to 4pm) to minimise disruption, but motorists are advised to plan their journeys and follow the signed diversionary route.
"Access to properties will be maintained at all times and bus services will be diverted via Hope Street, Lead Mill Lane and Piccadilly on Sunday, March 10 and Sunday, March 17. Outbound bus services between Monday, March 18 and Friday, March 22 will be diverted via St. Denys' Road, Piccadilly, Tower Street, Paragon Street and Barbican Road."
The bus stops outside Huby Court and the Yorkshire Evening Press Offices will be temporarily suspended with signs informing passengers of the location of temporary bus stops.
