The crossing, which is outside the Odeon cinema, will be out of action for the rest of today (Monday, February 25) and probably tomorrow while repairs get underway.

Peter Evely, the council's head of highway regulation, said, "We are still investigating the cause of the problem. We are doing all we can to ensure the pelican crossing can be restored to service as soon as possible. In the meantime we urge people to take extra carewhen crossing in this area."
