15.02.02: Traffic calming works start at St Aelred's Primary School

Posted on Friday 15 February 2002
Work began this week on installing a 20mph zone, including traffic calming measures on Fifth Avenue, Pennyghent Avenue and Ennerdale Avenue, as part of City of York Council's 'Safer Routes to Schools' initiative. The work is expected to take two weeks to complete.

Most of the works are being done under 'stop/go' board traffic control. However, a road closure will be needed on Sunday 17th February to enable work to be carried out within the Fifth Avenue, Pennyghent Avenue and Gillamoor Avenue junction. During the closure local diversions will be signed. Ray Chaplin, head of engineering consultancy said: "This important work is being done to increase the safety of local school children and residents. We would ask people to bear with us during this period." END
