The Viking Festival Procession is being staged to mark the end of Live Arts in Schools week which is being staged by City of York Council's performing arts service.
The procession will march through the city centre on Friday (February 8) - setting out from the Coppergate Centre after a performance of a Viking play there. Further plays are being staged at the Central Methodist Hall, St Saviourgate.
Gill Cooper, performing arts service manager, said, "The event celebrates the end of a series of Viking and Arts workshops organised to bring schools and artists together in new interactive and exciting ways.
"The children have really worked hard on bringing the whole thing alive and on Friday they will be like an advance raiding party for next week's annual Viking Festival!".
Dressed in costumes children from St Paul's, Heworth and Park Grove primary schools and Derwent Junior will be performing the Norse Myth plays and the procession will be led by two musicians. The route crosses Parliament Street, moves across to Church Street and Colliergate and then onto St Saviourgate. The youngsters are due to set out from the Coppergate Centre at 12.15pm on Friday afternoon.
