The contractor, Tarmac Ltd National Contracting, will be planing off the existing roundabout surface and 60 metres along each of the four arms of the roundabout, then resurfacing the whole road with a new tarmac surface.
Ray Chaplin, head of the council's engineering consultancy, said "The carriageway surfacing works will be carried out between the hours of 7pm and 6am, Monday to Saturday, to minimise the inconvenience to road users. However, there may still be some delays for which we apologise for in advance.
"All those directly affected by the works have received a letter explaining what is happening and advance notification signs have been erected at the roadside for the benefit of road users."
To undertake the works in a safe manner a road closure of the road to Rufforth Village and Acomb will be required. The closures will be carried out separately and both diversion routes will be signposted, the Ruffoth traffic via Askham Richard and the Acomb traffic via the A59 Boroughbridge Rd and Beckfield Lane.
