12.04.02: Work on Strensall Safety Scheme Begins

Posted on Thursday 11 April 2002
ork on a £120,000 City of York Council local safety scheme for Strensall, including a new mini-roundabout, will begin on Monday (April 15).

The council is to carry out work on the scheme at the junction of Strensall Road, York Road and Ox Carr Lane. The work is scheduled to take between six and eight weeks although the timetable is weather dependent.

During the work temporary traffic lights will be in operation at all times to enable safe working areas to be provided, and also to keep traffic congestion down to a minimum.

During the construction of one section of the mini-roundabout it will be necessary to have a road closure on Ox Carr Lane for one week - this will be announced nearer the time.

Traffic will be diverted via York Road, Princess Road, Moor Lane and vice versa. Access to properties and provisions for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

The contractors carrying out the works on behalf of City of York Council will be PBS Construction and normal working hours will be between 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays.

Ray Chaplin, head of the council's engineering consultancy, said, "Over the years there have been a number of accidents at the busy junction - some of them involving children. However, we have secured government money to introduce a safety scheme in the area and improve safety for all."
