19.11.01: Big Voices - Little Sing

Posted on Monday 19 November 2001
City of York Council's Little Sing project will take to the stage for the first time next week when children from two schools in the city give pre-Christmas performances.

The Little Sing project, run by the council's Performing Arts Service, aims to instill a love of singing in children from their first years in school. The first performances to family and friends will take place at the New Earswick Nursery on Wednesday November 28 and then at Oaken Grove Primary School on Thursday, November 29.

The project follows on from the Big Sing in which 1700 children took part in a large scale singing event in Parliament Street in May as part of the council and BBC Music Live's event .

Caroline Gilderdale, Performing Arts Service Early Years consultant has been working with children from the two schools alongside their teachers Janet Bell, Tracey Lake and Linda Reed.

Caroline said, "We have had a great response from the schools and children and eventually I would like it take the Little Sing project to all the very young children in York schools." END
