Swimming Lessons

SWIM YORK

SWIM YORK is the City of York Council's learn to swim scheme.

You’ve taken the plunge and decided your child needs to learn to swim. After all, swimming is the only sport that might save their life.

But how do you know that your child is being taught in the right way, and in a way that means they will enjoy their time in the pool? After all, nobody wants a child that is too scared or bored to get into the water.

If you want your son or daughter to have structured swimming lessons, follow the ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS).

      National Plan for Teaching Swimming

The Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) developed the 2007 National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) as a syllabus for swimming lessons.

Lessons delivered using the National Plan use fun and games to take children from the first splash to full competence in the pool and will ultimately help your child develop confidence in the water.

The NPTS guides your child through clearly defined stages, and there's a foundation level for babies as young as six-months-old. All of the NPTS is supported by the Kellogg's ASA Awards scheme... that's the badges and certificates you probably remember getting as a youngster.
