The free swimming initiative is part of a national campaign to promote swimming, general fitness, more active lifestyles and well-being. In York both City of York Council operated swimming pools are taking part. These are Energise and Yearsley Swimming Pool.
Anyone aged 16 and under or 60 and over can enjoy free swimming at Energise or Yearsley Swimming Pool during public swim sessions.
The government’s free swimming scheme started in York’s pools from April 1, 2009.
To take up the free swimming offer you should complete an application form and return it by post or in person to Energise or Yearsley Swimming Pool. After 2 weeks your Free Swimming Card will be available for collection from the same centre. Please note we will need to see some ID with your date of birth included before your card is issued to you.
You can now download an application form from the right hand side of this page. Printed application forms are also available to collect from leisure centres, libraries and council receptions.
You can swim for free during public swim sessions. Swimming timetables are available for either Energise or Yearsley Swimming Pool and are also available to download from the right hand side of this page.
Free swimming will finish at the end of March 2011.
