The YorkCard is a leisure card for York residents. If you live within the City of York Council area you're entitled to buy one of these cards.
Your YorkCard gives you discounted or free entry to a range of leisure facilities in York, including:
*Entry to the Castle Museum and Yorkshire Museum is free with a YorkCard, but there may be charges for certain exhibitions.
**York CitySightseeing will be holding Resident's Sundays throughout June and July. See the sights for half the price. Simply show your YorkCard to the York CitySightseeing driver to buy your half price 24 hours tour bus ticket on any Sunday in June and July.
Having a YorkCard also means that you're entitled to pay the reduced YorkCard rate for any author and storytelling events we hold at the libraries.
Your YorkCard will be issued to you at any City of York Library as part of your library card. As of 7 February 2011, there is a £2 admin charge for YorkCards, but they are free for Under 18s. If you wish to join the library without getting a YorkCard, there is no charge. Joining the library is very easy to do at any branch, and is even quicker if you fill in the registration form in advance. You can download the form from the documents to download section of this website.
No, everybody in your household needs their own card.
From 7 February 2011, the YorkCards are being re-issued. After six years of issuing the previous cards, it is time to update our records to ensure that they are correct. Existing YorkCard holders are being asked to come to a City of York Library to get their new card, which will look like one of the images shown on this page (the image shows an adult and a child's card side by side).
The new YorkCards are set to expire on 28 Feb 2013.
There are a few simple rules to ensure that the scheme isn’t abused. Please read them before using your YorkCard.
