At Energise we have made every effort to be as green as we can. PSG Energy have carried out an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and we are proud to be rated an ‘A’ category, which is the most efficient.
A few examples of our green policies and practices are listed below.
The main pool is heated by solar energy through 140 solar panels on the roof of the building.
Additional heating is supplied by environmentally friendly, wood pellet boilers.
Clean water is constantly pumped into the swimming pools to help maintain water quality. As water leaves the pool it is recycled to use in flushing the centre’s toilets.
The swimming pools have a huge ‘Kalwall’ window. This material has been specially chosen for its ability to let natural light into the building, without any glare which could be a problem for lifeguards.
The sports hall’s insulation has been improved to help retain the heat inside.
Energy efficient bulbs and lighting have been used throughout the building. In many areas, such as some of the changing areas and toilets, the lighting is controlled by motion sensors. This means that the lighting switches off automatically when nobody is in the area.
Swimmers using the pools are requested to shower on the poolside before entering the water. This simple process means that we can cut down on the use of chemicals in the water.
We encourage customers to visit by foot, cycling or public transport. New, covered cycle bays are available near the entrance for cyclists. A new footpath will provide easier walking access from Gale Lane.
Energise recycles paper, cardboard, glass and plastics and has recycling bins in the reception area for customers.
