We maintain a Historic Environment Record or HER (also known as a sites and Monuments Record or SMR). The HER consists of maps, record cards, aerial photographs, and reports on archaeological digs. At present, the HER is not accessible over the internet.

The HER is held at 9 St Leonard's Place York and is available from 10.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday. Contact archaeology if you want to make an appointment to look at the HER.

Use of the HER is free if you are a student or carrying out research for yourself or for a community group. If you are carrying out research for commercial purposes then there is a flat fee of £35 for using the HER.
