Whether you are looking to develop your computer skills for a new job, want to save time and money by shopping online, or contact your friends and relatives by email we can help. We offer a variety of ways to help you get online - from essential skills to help you use a mouse and keyboard to Online Basics which will show you how to use the internet and set up an email.

Starter sessions

These are a "one off" one to one session with an experienced member of staff who will talk through the basic skills needed to use the Internet and give you the confidence to get started.  Starter Sessions last one hour, and are available at the following times:

Acomb  Friday 9am  Saturday 9am
Clifton  Monday 6.30pm  Wednesday 2.30pm
Haxby  Tuesday 10am  Tuesday 11am
Tang Hall  Monday 10am  Thursday 2pm
York  Monday 3pm  Tuesday 3pm and 4pm
 Wednesday 10am  Friday 10am
 Saturday 3pm  

The staff member will then offer you one of the following sessions or you could start with one of these if preferred:

Essential computer skills

Tutor-led group session in a friendly environment giving hands on experience using the mouse and keyboard.  These take place on the days below but it is essential to check with the library for the exact dates and times.

Acomb  Wednesday morning
Clifton  Monday afternoon
Tang Hall  Thursday morning
York  Tuesday morning

After this session you will move on to...

Online basics

These guided one to one or small group sessions take place in all our Explore centres. They are facilitated by either a member of staff or one of our trained volunteers using online resources. You will learn at your own pace how to use the Internet. 

Acomb  Tuesday 2pm and 3pm
Clifton  Friday 2.30pm
Haxby  Tuesday 5pm and 6pm
Tang Hall  Friday 2pm
York  Saturday 10am and Wednesday 3pm

Following completion of the online courses, and depending on the level of skills you have achieved, you can practice and improve at home or on a library computer. If required we can offer you the opportunity to enrol on a follow-on course, either in a library or with Adult Education at one of their centres.
